John Schulenburg, 65, of Basking Ridge, is charged with distribution and possession of child pornography in an indictment handed up Wednesday by a federal grand jury in Newark, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said.
Schulenburg has remained free on $100,000 unsecured bond since his arrest last November, the U.S. attorney said.
The undercover investigators conducted an online session with Schulenberg last July using a publicly available peer-to-peer (P2P) program, which allows Internet users to trade digital files, Carpenito said.
During the session, Schulenburg shared several images of child sexual abuse, he said.
Investigators armed with a search warrant found hundreds of similar images on Schulenburg’s computer, Carpenito said.
The U.S. attorney credited the FBI Newark's Child Exploitation Human Trafficking Task Force, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office and the Bernards Township Police Department with the investigation leading to the charges and indictment, secured by Assistant U.S. Attorney Vijay Dewan of Carpenito's Criminal Division in Newark.
